Basically i wanted to reformat the hard drive to get rid of all the files and folders on there and just have the computer with the operating system (xp sp2 32bit) left on it. I really wanted to do this, as there had been alot of things downloaded on the computer by various members of my household, and the performance of the computer seemed a bit sluggish. I found the xp installation discs, put this in the computer and reinstalled windows. During the installation it said that the old OS would be overwritten with the new one, and some of the files (documents etc, im assuming) MAY be lost. This is of course what i wanted, so i continued installing. The installation went fine, loaded up activated etc, foundound the drivers i needed aswell. However, i have now noticed that all my old program files and old folders from before are still on the hard drive. This seems to be causing lots of conflicts, making it inable to now install programs such as windows live messenger or updates for flash player to watch stuff on youtube.
I just wanted to know if anyone could help me reformat my hard drive so that i can just have the operating system on the computer, as ALL my documents and files i need are backed up elsewhere. I looked into Dariks nuke and boot, but ive heard it can make things difficult or impossible to reinstall windows on? Im not sure on the whole matter myself, i just wanted to see if anyone here has any good suggestions!
THANKS very much
