rshaffer:

I finally figured it out. The only thing I'm not understanding is how to attach it to my reply so you can see it.

I DEL every "File Not Found" and there were say about 10 of them.

So I will wait for your instrucitons on how I'm going to get this file to you. Right now it's opened with about 5 other Windows, I'm afraid to close anything in fear I might mess something up.

Also where you said in the instrucitons:

Step #5 Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
Of course you know there was no Export As key, so Save was it, and after the Save, I dont know where that information went ....

HELP !!!

Instead of clicking fast reply click on Add Reply
Under the place where you type message you will see a Browse button
Click that and find the file you saved on your system and click it.
Now click the Upload button next to the Browse button
Once the message Upload was successful shows up then scroll down and click on the Add Reply button.

OK here are the instructions starting from where you are now.

4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As (or Save in some versions.)
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to your desktop for easy location.
7: Attach to your next reply.

Yes that's it. Now we move on to the next steps. Please follow the next steps in order and if you have any questions just ask.
I will try to stay with you for awhile yet but it is getting late here.

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

+ "Adobe Photo Downloader"
+ "dscactivate"
+ "ISUSPM Startup"
+ "ISUSScheduler"
+ "SunJavaUpdateSched"

The next file needs to be manually disabled and is only needed if you use multi language on your keyboard. If you do then skip the step.

To turn off just ctfmon.exe go to:

Control Panel then to Regional and Language Options

Click on the Languages Tab then click the Details button

Click on the Advanced tab

Check the box that says Turn off advanced text services option

Click A and then OK

When done restart computer and then:

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:
It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

When you have completed all the steps then let me know how your system is running.
Is it faster now?
Are you still getting the Low Virtual Memory error?

You don't have to stay with me, I just read the instructions and if I run into a snag, I'll see you either tomorrow or on Monday. I really don't want to keep you any longer. It's only 8:46-pm here and I am really tired of being on this PC.

So I'm going to call it a night myself.

Thank you so much for all you have done rshaffer and putting up with my stupidity ... (smile)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS the system is running like it's brand new, wow what a difference.

Good Night

Not stupidity but just not enough information. That is part of what we do is educate.
Hopefully when we are all done you would have learned a few things and will not be worried about coming back and asking for more help.
You are always welcome to stay and enjoy the forums after we are finished.
If you have any questions just post them and I will answer them in the morning.
You have a great night and you are doing a great job. we will get you fixt all up when we are done.

rshaffer:

This note is for tomorrow or Monday, whenever you come on. Downloading TFC by OldTimer, you said if I am running Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. I'm running XP-2002. So my question is:

Will there be instructions for running XP instead of Vista when I go to the Website????

I have no problem with your other instructions.

Low Virtual Memory:
I only got that message one time, down in the Systems Tray, and when I saw that, it took me back to Christopher's PC, and yes it's me Debra .... (smile). And I didnt want to have any problems with this PC, considering it's my PC .... (smile again) !!!

Instructions for TFC are for XP.
The mention of Vista is only a side note to Vista users. Follow the instructions as they written.
when you click the link I provided for TFC there should be a window that comes up asking to save the file.
Save it to your desktop and then run it.

Good suggestion 123Runner, if one program won't work try a different one that does the same thing. :)
