BACKGROUND INFO:

I was playing borderlands (downloaded via steam) last night when it froze which has never happened before with any of my games. I proceeded to restart my computer and attempt to launch Borderlands again. The box came up saying "Preparing to launch Borderlands", but then closed and was replaced by another saying "Borderlands failed to start (Error Code 51)." I was suggested to download some NVIDIA Driver Software: http://www.nvidia.co..._9.09.0814.html

I downloaded, and tried to open Borderlands once again. Nothing different. I uninstalled the NVIDIA Driver software, and tried opening borderlands, and it then said "Performing first time setup... Installing PhysX Engine (step 1 of 1)." Then it once again said "Borderlands failed to start (Error Code 51)."

*Borderland is a PC game I recently got.*

~

Thought that might help. Onto the more urgent problem:
My computer now will not start properly.

When I turn it on, it works fine for first few seconds, then "No signal" pops up, and my monitor goes black, but my computer continues to buzz along merrily. I have a PC running windows XP by the way.

Any idea's on how I can fix this?

Thanks a ton,
Kizz

Hi Kizzler, and welcome to GeeksToGo!

Sounds like that installing and uninstalling the NVIDIA drivers might have hurt your video card a little.

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode?
Reboot your computer, tapping F8 when you hear a beep (or if your computer doesn't normally beep, just tap it after you turn it on).
A menu should appear guiding you to choose some advanced boot options.
Select "Safe Mode" with the arrows, and press Enter to boot.

Then post back and let me know if that worked, if however the screen still stays off we might be able to try something different.
Note: Because Safe Mode disables your network card, you'll have to restart to post back here.

Cheers,
Deon :)

No such luck :)
The only command that seems to respond is the TAB key that opens up "BIOS POST MESSAGE". But it only stays open for a second so I don't a chance to see what the options are. I also tried pressing F8 while in the "BIOS POST MESSAGE" section, no luck there either.

I do not believe so.
The three labels on the front say Intertech, Asus, and Intel core 2 duo.
