I went to bed last night, I had delayed a windows update until then and when I got up this morning my computer was on a black screen, the cursor worked, I could get to task manager and all of that, but its like a black screen is covering my entire desktop. I reboot and i get the green vista welcome screen and then it goes again right away to the black screen with a file manager window open, but nothing else. I can run any programs from that, but I cannot access the desktop in any way. Any assistance with solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hello brettmcd...

From Task Manager/New Task, type rstrui.exe and click Ok. This should start the System Restore feature...restore to the day before you downloaded the updates and see if the problem persists.
