Hi i want to use my acer laptop as a server at home so everyone can connect to it via the linksys and watch all the media i have stored on it, instead of everyone grabbing and tossing my dvd collection around. I have everything stored on a 2tb external hard drive. What I'm wondering is can it be remotely accessed by using the laptop's ip address as a gateway to the hd or does the external itself need it's own nic card? I was thinking about trying to run linux with apache on it also. Thanks for the tips.
