Itunes podcast adding and removing

For some strange reason when I upgraded to the latest itunes I inadvertently deleted my music library. I had quite a collection of podcasts which were lost I thought. I rebuilt my music and started to rebuild my podcasts when I discovered the directory from the previous library. I had renamed the previous itunes library so it wouldn't synch with it. I then took the podcast files and tranfered them into the new podcast library. The problem is that they don't show up in Itunes but are on my Ipod. How do I delete them? Can I just add a new folder to my library( the old podcast directory)
