there are a lot of things that can problems with usb ...from bios settings to plug and play settings to IRQ issues...
Despite information to the contrary, USB does NOT like to share its IRQ with another device, (IRQ Holder for PCI Steering is not considered another device)
To view your current IRQ assignments you can open Device Manager.

1. Click on START, click on CONTROL PANEL.
2. Click on Performance and Maintenance.
3. Click on System.
4. Click on the Hardware tab.
5. Click the DEVICE MANAGER button.

Once you have Device Manager open, select VIEW from the toolbar menu and then click Resources by Type.

Double click on Interrupt Request (IRQ)

Tests completed. No errors. No surprise as I had just completed these same tests two days ago with the same result.

Happyrock - Need a bit more instruction. How do I capture and post the screen shot? By the way, fully expanded it takes up about two full screens. Do you want just the IRQ sections?

DSenette - I'm warming up the wood chipper.

No other USB peripherals connected.

Every few weeks I attach a camera. Less frequently a thumb drive. Perhaps once in six months an external hard drive. I recently purchased a smart phone that I'd probably like to attach more frequently if this problem can be resolved but have not done so yet.

Thanks for the primer on the screen shot.

Belay my last. Delta Sierra! I had a Canon MX700 multi-function printer and an APC Back-UPS XS 1000 connected to connectors on the rear. After disconnecting both the problem persists.

Would a new image of the IRCs be useful?

One red x for the disconnected printer -- otherwise no red or yellow indicators.

No, the red x was just because I had the printer (along with all other USB devices) disconnected. Reconnecting it eliminated the red x.

You must be in the publishing business.

I downloaded and installed the latest driver for my printer dated 10/09. Same thing. The printer firmware was updated about ten days ago because of a FAX problem unrelated to the USB problem (the FAX was picking up on voice telephone calls).
