Hello dammmrew.... Welcome to GeeksToGo, :) :) :)

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. We will try to help you resolve this as soon as possible.
Please understand we are all volunteers and we are not here all the time. Sometimes it may be a extended amount of time to get back to you. If it has been more then 3 days please shoot me a PM and I will try to get back to you quickly then
Slow-pc Fighter is another one of these miracle registry cleaning programs that do not work and most likely is the root of all your problems right now.

have a program called 'slow-pc fighter', and on every startup, it deletes approx 150 empty entries. so i figure that has alot to do with it.

This scares me if this does this every time you boot up.
A registry cleaner will not increase your system's speed or performance, and has the potential to break your registry to the point that your PC is no longer bootable.
We strongly advise that people stay away from any of the registry cleaners out there.
Go HERE to get more information about why registry cleaners aren't needed.
Thanks to Sari for the explanation

I would like to see a Autoruns and a Everest log to take a look at some things which may be causing your problems.

oh yes, i have major problems then, if those registry cleaners are to blame ....
i have 'tune-up utilities' that messes around with 'em, as well as 'desktop meastro',
'slow pc fighter','windows doctor' & 'xp repair pro', all of which i have accumulated
over the years ...

i HAD mismatch'd RAM, altho i've straighten'd that issue out now ...
i realize this pc is a hunk o' scrap ... but i need it to last just a
weee bit longer.

no problem on it may take your volunteers sum time ... is no problem, i just thank yall for
the assistance.

am in process of removing most of the registry editors now ... hope it all goes well.

here are the reports you requested ...
thx in advance ... damddrew :)

We can get it straightened out for you. It might take time.
As already stated, get rid of the miracle cures and registry cleaners.

The everest report shows 789mb memory which isn't too bad.
The hard drives shows adequate space also.

I will let Rshaffer61 do the autoruns because he is better at that.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
[/list]
b]When that is done[/b]

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:
It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

Reboot and let me know how system is running now

have recently done a defrag using tune-up, but i will do it your way also ...

The only entry in the autoruns that I'm curious about is this
X "StartupFaster"
There seems to eb 3 of these entries in the Autoruns for some reason.

hehe, and one more thing ....

i think the fan on my chip may be failing .... cuz when i run an app using alot of memory 'n graphic an' stuff, getting the chip nice 'n hot .... the pc will shut down and attempt to restart ... it'll just about get to reloading, and then it'll shut down again ... and it will repeat .... however, if i shut the pc down and let it sit for a good 20 min or so, it'll startup and run good until i get it all heat'd up again .....
at least thats my thoughts ...

First of all no more miracle programs as they have messed everything up completely.
Next lets see about straightening things up now. Run the programs 123Runner suggest and then let us know how everythig is running. We will go on to the msconfig startup from there if we need to.

I am 123runner

I would not over clock at this time. Actually I prefer to not even recommending it.
You mentioned over heating possible.
Is this a laptop or desktop? I do not recall.
If desktop, you should open the case with power off and clean all the fans of dust. Make sure they all spin free.

I think we should run the chkdsk and then sfc/ scannow.

last few times i tried to go into msconfig thru the start menu -> run ... it wouldn't let me

Go to
Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /f and click Enter

It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y
If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually.
On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

Let me know if this fixes the problem

Rshaffer61 you can do the sfc. I am off to a Scout thing
