Hi guys im a newbie here, just got a problem with my PC running on Win 98. It often(intermittent) crashes and freezes. I ran Spybot and Ad-Aware but encountered this error messages.

Anwendungsfehler :tazz:

Both devices seem to be failing at

0084:00000000

That is a memory address...and I suspect you are correct that this is hardware. Can it run in safemode?

Yup, done Safe Mode... works fine. In Normal Mode it also works fine SOMETIMES ;) most often I encountered those messages.

It often happens when I'm browsing the net then suddenly this IE error msg would appear and tells me it needs to send error report, Explorer will now close. Things then go crazy, sometimes it just freezes my PC so I had to reboot. :tazz:

in add/remove software in control panel, do you have anything starting KB......listed (a windows update that causes issues with earlier versions)

Yup there is Windows 98 KB891711 Update... and Qxxxxxx Updates too. I also noticed that this KB891711 is in my startup list (msconfig), I could see it when I press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

I have come across a thread regarding issues on IE 6, " Invalid Page Fault, Performing Illegal Operation needs to shutdown..." I have IE 6.0.2600.0000.

Do you think this must have in relation with my existing problem? :tazz:

yes, uninstall that.....that update causes odd and seemingly unrelated issues.

DONE uninstall! ;)

I will be observing this for a day or two, then I will post here any problems that may occur.

I have just downloaded and installed the latest update on Intel Chipsets, Im now on the process of downloading AC 97 and Nvdia latest drivers...

I will keep you updated after I have done all.

DONE updating the suggested driver updates. Seems to work fine now, just to be sure I'll observe it for couple of days or more :tazz:
