I have an Excel file on my computer that is nearly 150MB in file size. When others access it via the network, it takes a really long time to work with the file. First, after opening the file, Excel shows this scrolling bar stating that its downloading the file, then it opens and another scrolling bar appears stating that it's opening the file. Once in the file, you can quickly and easily make changes. But to save, you're only repeating the process. It takes several minutes to save. I know this is because the file is so large. I'm just wondering if there is a better way to share this data? For example, is it possible to keep a copy of the file on each computer and then have a batch file merge the changes at the end of the day.
This file contains records from A to Z. As a last resort, I could just break up the grouping like A - J, K - Q, R - Z or something like this.
This is Excel 07 and we're running on a 1GB network with very little network traffic.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Magus
