G'day all,
First off, this forum is absolute fantastic, and I love the work you guys do here. Seriously, it's incredible, and absolutely vital, so cheers to you all.

Secondly, I'm having some real bloody issues with my computer. I'm running AVG and Sysgate and I'm pretty responsible about downloading, but somehow some [bleep] malware things have snuck their way in. I'd really appreciate any ideas people may have.

I've followed the steps listed in the stickied thread on the main page.

I've considered following the suggestions given to other people with similar problems, but I figure that messing with the registry or whatever without being told specifically how to do it could be a bad idea.

Here's the HiJackThis log:

Hi asdt and Welcome to G2G!!

Lets take this a Couple of steps at a time!

Enter your control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.

Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties.

Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Make sure the radio dial is green!

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please right-click: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT*CLICK THIS LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES

I need you to copy all of the Killbox file paths below and paste them into Notepad.

* Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\bsw.exe
C:\WINNT2\sites.ini
C:\WINNT2\popuper.exe
C:\WINNT2\System32\wldr.dll
C:\WINNT2\System32\helper.exe
C:\WINNT2\System32\intmon.exe
C:\WINNT2\System32\shnlog.exe
C:\WINNT2\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\WINNT2\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\WINNT2\system32\msole32.exe
C:\WINNT2\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\WINNT2\system32\hp7138.tmp
C:\WINNT2\web\related.htm

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Make sure you can view hidden files.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following, if found, (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard

While still in Safe Mode, do the following:

Make sure all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis and place a check next to the following items, if found, then click FIX CHECKED

Lets take care of the DNS Protocol Hijack First!!!(The 017s with the crap IP addy)

Download Ewido Security Suite, install then from within the program check for updates BUT dont scan yet
Ewido Security Suite:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK.
We will fix this in a moment.

From the main Ewido screen, Click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start Update button.

After the Update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), Now close the program.

If you have problems updating see here
http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/

If you run into any errors while running this, please let me know ASAP!!

Please Dwomload remv3.zip from

Here

Please be sure remv3 is Unzipped into its own folder, otherwise it will not work!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders, this must be done after restarting in Safe Mode!!

Here is a link to help with that
http://www.bleepingc...showtutorial=62

Locate remv3 and Double Click remv3.bat>>Wait for the DOS window to close!

It will create a log located at C:\log.txt,I will need to see that log in the next post!

Make sure the radio dial has the Green Dot in it!!

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{453C34F5-68C6-4175-B583-A3118951C000}: NameServer = 69.50.176.156,195.225.176.31

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{A516C6CA-1835-41E7-BE2B-E6BDE2BDF084}: NameServer = 69.50.176.156 195.225.176.31

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.176.156,195.225.176.31

O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.176.156,195.225.176.31

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\VxD\MSTCP: NameServer = 69.50.176.156,195.225.176.31

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!!

Click Start, and then click Search.
Click All files and folders.
In the "All or part of the file name" box, type:

rasphone.pbk

Verify that "Look in" is set to "Local Hard Drives" or to (C:).
Click "More advanced options."
Check "Search system folders."
Check "Search subfolders."
Click Search.
Click Find Now or Search Now.

If you find rasphone.pbk file, right-click the file, and then click "Open With."
Deselect the "Always use this program to open this program" check box.
Scroll through the list of programs and double-click Notepad.
When the file opens, delete the entries below:

IpDnsAddress = 69.50.176.156
IpDns2Address = 195.225.176.31
IpNameAssign = 2

Close Notepad and be sure to Save your changes when prompted!!!

Now Click Start>>Run>>Type in CMD and Click OK!

At the Dos Prompt Screen, type in cd\ and hit enter!

Now type in ipconfig/flushdns and click enter>>Once it is done, close command prompt!

Now Scan the PC with Ewido,Allow it to clean all it finds and be sure to Save the log it generates!

Restart and Post a fresh HijackThis log along with the logs from Ewido and Remv3!
