Hi Guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM memory on my Sony notebook.

I have doen this previously on my old desktop, which is quite easy, simply slide it in!

However I am not sure how to go about doing it on the notebook, so I have a few questions if I may:

By the way my notebook is a Sony Vaio PCG-K315B.

--How do I know/ where can I find out the exact type of memory I require?

--How do I/ where can I find out how to install it into my notebook, or do i simply pop the top by unscewing it??!!

--And lastly how do i know/ where can i find out how much free space I have for the new memory.

Thanks alot for your time and help,
Brgds

Hi there

Just had a quick check on your vaio model number, and this is what Sony have to say :

Your Vaio currently has 512MB RAM (2 x 256MB). It can be upgraded to a total of 1GB max.
However, there are no free slots so you would have to remove one or both of the current modules & replace them with 512MB modules. (NB 1GB on a single module is not supported)

The type of RAM you need is SO-DIMM PC2700 DDR (512MB).

To replace the RAM, flip the laptop over (remove battery & power first obviously).
Unscrew the panel in the centre & lift up. The RAM modules should be directly under there.

The link to Sony's online shop for this particular memory is below (NB this is the UK site, but you can redirect from there). You would probably find that memory made by someone other than Sony will also work in your Vaio (& be cheaper), as long as it meets the specs given above. I couldn't guarantee this though.

Hope this helps!

When upgrading memory I tend to use Kingston for laptops, so far the memory has been trouble free and and cheaper than the likes of Compaq and Sony.

I just got new memory for my laptop from Offtek.co.uk. I ordered in the
afternoon, and it arrived the next day at 8.30am. Good prices and fast
delivery. They will also advise if you're not sure what memory you need.
