Btw, you had me set the paging file thing to 667 MB, but you also said that's just until I add more memory. When I add more, how do I reset it, to what numbers? Or should I set it to "system managed"? Thx.

rshaffer61, thank you so much for all your help. You're the best :)

Set it to to System manage then. The system will auto select and hopefully it will set for maximum so you should not have any error messages then.
I'm not the best but I do try and I don't give up easily. We have lots of very talented staff members here as well as other members who give freely. They do this just for the satisfaction of helping others like yourself without anything more then a simple Thank You when everything is working correctly again.
I hope your system is working better and also you mentioned you haven't tried the games yet a couple of posts back. Have you been able to try them and if so how did it work?

I played a couple, one did fine but it always has anyway. Then I played one that I knew had always shut the pc down and sure enough it shut off after a couple of minutes. The odd thing is that the game that shuts down is not as big as the game that doesn't. The game that shuts down is about 56 MB and the one that plays ok is about 60 MB.

I hope when I add memory that all my games will work properly.

Hmm strange. Is the system itself shutting down still or is it just the game? Any error message coming up now?

There's no "low on virtual memory" messages. The only time this happens is when I play certain games and it never used to do this at all. I've been downloading and playing these games from different sites like Big Fish games and GameHouse for about three years, never had a problem before.

In my first post the system info said "Available physical memory 56.34 MB -- Page file space 552.32 MB"

Now it says "Available physical memory 20.06 MB" (a few hours ago it said only 12.0) -- Page file space 874.60 MB

I haven't downloaded any new games or anything else except the Everest and Speedfan, and I uninstalled those right after I got the info. The only other thing I ran was the driver update.

I think the only way to stop this completely is to increase the ram to the 1 gig I suggested.
That will give you plenty for the above paging file issue. Unfortunately the 256 megs you have is just not enough to do it anymore.

So you think the 256 mb memory I ordered, along with the 256 mb I have now, which will total 512 mb, should be enough? I hope so. As I said in a previous post, if it isn't I'll just have to add even more when I can afford to.

It will help for sure. At least it should stop the majority of the problems for now. :) :)
