Can I Delete Old Version of MS Office?

I bought this computer about 9 years ago, and it came with an old version of MS Office. I upgraded it to Office 2003 a few years back, but I'm wondering if I can remove the original version of Office. It takes up a large amount of space but I don't want to delete it if it will mess up the running of Office 2003.
