Hi My name is Nick - I'm a simple man but not a Tech savy pc guy
problem - I have a laptop with windows xp - I deleted/removed some programs that were not used from my pc and when i rebooted it I received the error missing file normaliz.dll - now I must tell you that I do not have the Windows xp CD - otherwise I would have reinstall the software to rectify this problem - so how do i install the missing dll file when MY START UP PROMPT will not even show up when i boot up
right now Im using some one else's pc so basically how can i resolve this

Have you tried to boot into the Advance Boot Menu where you highlight Last Known Good Configuration That Worked then click Enter?
If no joy then we will have to try a system restore back before the problem started.

just like a computer program step by step instructions are required

To get to the Advanced Boot Menu usually on second post screen you would tap the F8 button. Since you provided no make or model of your laptop then yours could be ESC, F2,F10, F11 or F12.
Once there using your down arrows on your keyboard go down to the Last Known Good Configuration and highlight it. Then click Enter

OK since the boot issue won't work let's see if you can get to the Recovery Partition
Turn the system on and start tapping the F1 key. This should take you into the Bios where one of the options should be Recovery Partition
Now this is important depending on which way you want to do this.
There should be two options for recovery.
Option 1 is Full Recovery. This will format your system and return it to factory defaults just like it was brand new. This WILL destroy all your data on the hard drive.
Option 2 is called a Non Destructive Recovery and this should repair any corrupted or missing files while leaving your data save.

well for the pass hour or so I have been booting up and tapping F1 but the screen as not pop up yet now what

ok is there any place on the first post screen black screen where it tells you how to enter the Bios or Setup area?

If none of the key combination's work then i suggest one of the following options:


One option is to contact HP to purchase your Compaq recovery cd HERE

The other option is to contac HP directly HERE and ask them for instructions on how to get to the recovery partition.
