I am still having problems with spyware and went through all of the steps listed in your "Read before you post a logfile" section. The following is my logfile.

Thanks in advance and God Bless!

Hi cj4qts and welcome
  • Download CWShredder (there is a link in my signature), unzip it, and save it on the Desktop. Please do not run it yet, though.
  • Update CWShredder by click on the update button,Next be sure and click on the "fix" button.Close out the program when done
  • Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank
    O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SQInstaller] SQInstaller.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aqadcup] C:\WINDOWS\aqadcup.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WUd5] C:\documents and settings\laura\local settings\temp\WUd5.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [5EIGFlSIS] C:\documents and settings\laura\local settings\temp\5EIGFlSIS.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [H] C:\documents and settings\kayla\local settings\temp\H.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wjqziw] c:\windows\system32\wjqziw.exe
O23 - Service: .NET Framework Service (.NET Connection Service) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    SQInstaller.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\aqadcup.exe
    C:\documents and settings\laura\local settings\temp\WUd5.exe
    C:\documents and settings\laura\local settings\temp\5EIGFlSIS.exe
    C:\documents and settings\kayla\local settings\temp\H.exe
    c:\windows\system32\wjqziw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe <--Note this is in WINDOWS folder, and not the Legit System32 folder, make sure you double check to get the right one

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

The following is my new HijackThis log file. Note, you mentioned towards the end of your message about going in and manually deleting certain files/folders. I could not find any of those. I not only looked via the filepath names, but I also went in and manually searched through XP's "search" option looking in all hidden files and folders.

Is there any of the "MSN Mesenger" crap that can be deleted? I still want the program to run, but if needed I'd like to delete anything extra that might be slowing the system down. My daughter still uses it occasionally so I'd like to keep it running.

Hi Andy,

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the services called:

NET Framework Service

or

NET Connection Service

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Open HiJackThis, click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (make sure there are NO spaces before or after the name):

NET Connection Service
Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.

Post a new HiJackThis log after it reboots and let me know if you received any error messages.
