upgrading windows vista photo gallery

I recently got a new pc and it has windows vista 64bit installed on it. After about 2 mths. my windows messenger stop working and also my windows photo gallery too. It says I need an upgrade, but when I go to download it I get an error message and error is unknown. How can I resolve these problems? thanks Bek
