My computer has become very unstable, when I boot it prompts me for the recovery boot first of all and I don't know how to change that. Now it goes to a check disk count and if it counts down it stops at 1 second and freezes. I have to pull the battery and reboot and hit a key to stop the disk check. I am afraid it is going to crash on me all together and I'll be up ** creek. I am running windows 7 premium.

To start the manufacturer's Recovery process (which I think it's asking you to do) requires the pressing of a specific key or key combination when you switch on and see the maker's splash screen. The key to press depends on the brand of laptop, but you could try <F11>, or <Ctrl> + <F11>.

If they don't work, please post make and model.
