Freeze! Do I have a virus

Over the last couple of weeks my computer started freezing up. The screen is still visible, but mouse is frozen and no keyboard or mouse commands work. I can wait hours, hoping it unfreezes, but it never does. I need to do a hard reset.

It can happen at anytime, but it seems to happen during mouse wheel scrolling. I do have a wireless Dell mouse.

Is this a common or known virus?
