Hello there :tazz:

I also seem to have the Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.wp infection.As a matter of fact, i unforunately have lost control of my desktop and my internet explorer.(currently I use firefox)

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

i am sorry for the delay, but i had some problems with the service pack installation. I am expecting to receive service pack 2 from a friend tomorrow afternoon. As soon as i get it, i will post my new hijack this log.

due to a hardware failure, i was made to format my pc..
however i would like to know how can you restore the desktop after the smitfraud trojan

Sorry to hear about your hardware failure, and subsequent reformat

We use a smitfraud.reg edit

Surely you don't need it after a reformat :tazz:

Please right-click: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate "smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.
