Walmart has XP so it is good. They are all made by Microsoft and you know it's genuine then.

Nope, different drivers will load which will most likely cause the system to not boot.
Also since it is a recovery disk for another system it is against Microsoft's EULA to load it on another system.

ok i was wrong. i thought walmart sold wp but the one hear doesnot. they have 7 though. willl this work instead of xp

You stated earlier your laptop was 6 - 8 years old.
That would make it a 32 bit unit.
You can use XP home or XP pro.
It does not matter.

NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND

i have computer in bios mode with selected boot frm cd and i install new cd for my operating system and all i get is the message above.

anyone have any ideas?

It's still booting the HD and not the cdrom.
Did you purchase a Xp disk or did you borrow a copied disk?
