Hard drive format

Hi,

I need help to figure out how to format my hard drive(s).

I`m running a windows xp computer, with 2 40 GB drives, in 2+0 stripe Raid mode; single partition.

Already tried.

Doesnt work - '' There are windows xp applications running, so format is not possible at the moment''

use fdisk, delete the partition, then if you want to reuse the hd, create a new partition for the new os.
fdisk instructions

Fdisk is for repartitioning a drive which is unnecessary if you only want to reformat. Also, if the drives are currently formatted as NTFS file system & you wish to keep that file system, standard fdisk can only create FAT32 file systems. Also, win98 boot disk won't recognise the NTFS & therefore won't be able to format it.

If this is the boot drive you want to format, you should be able to just boot from the XP CD to reinstall & select recovery console. From the dos prompt, type :
format c:
