headphones wont work in my laptop

Hi, Im new here and i just signed up cause i thought it would be a good idea, incase i have any other problems with my laptop.. okay here the issue... i plugged my headphones in... and no sound.. all of the volume controls are not muted.. and ive set the speakers and headphones as the default device... the model is presario CQ61 note book pc my head phone jack does not seem to be damaged what-so-ever . I was wondering if anyone might know whats going on.. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Is the volume control by the headphones and or on the headphones turned up? This is the most common issue with this problem. It is a separate volume control then the system volume.
