I have no internet connection, the network adapter seems to be damaged or missing. Following is a link to another problem I was having working on:

Looking at the device in the device manager it says that the network adapter is corrupt or missing.

Is this laptop, or desktop?

Try these basic steps first...

Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 30 seconds.
Power them back on.
Restart computer.

If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia...inSockFix.shtml (doesn't work in Vista)
Restart computer, and check again.

If that doesn't work...
Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF) (doesn't work in Vista):
http://wiki.lunarsof...2C_and_articles

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file. Likely not!

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here, one at a time, do the below:

Reinstall BITS
Reinstall Windows Firewall
Repair Permissions
Reset networking

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

Restart computer.

Once I ran the ipconfigs I connected directly to the modem and it finally worked. I'm having problems with internet explorer and windows updates. It hangs. Considering I haven't been able to connect to the internet in over a month I guess it's pretty out of date.

Sometimes Internet Explorer opens to the homepage, sometimes it hangs without opening the homepage.

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?

Did you try another browser?

What's the issue with Windows updates?

Now I can't connect to the internet again. I don't understand what's happening, it's very frustrating. I even hooked up directly to the modem and it couldn't find it.

Where do you look for it?
Any errors in Device Manager?

The network adapter doesn't have an error. There are 5 miniports that all have errors. On my taskbar it shows the internet connection with a red x. When I click on it and pick view available wireless networks, it says there are no networks in range. The laptop I'm using to type this is connected to the wireless network without any problem.

Ok I did everything again like I did the first time and it's working again. Wired(which wouldn't work) and wireless(which wouldn't work) are working again.
