There seems to be a virus posing as an antivirus on my laptop. I get frequent popups asking me to purchase the full version. It used to just be annoying but now I am losing functionality in my internet browsers. It wont let me get to certain sites. I tried downloading MBAM but once the setup is on my desktop and I try to open it, it loads for a second then nothing happens. HELP! Thanks in advance!

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the
START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own.
If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum.
If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Hello and thanks for the quick response. I started going through the steps and got stuck at the MBAM installation. I am not able to run the program. I tried renaming it and that didnt work either. Should I skip this step and move on?

Skip it and move on. Start a new topic in the Malware Forum itself with all the requested logs. Be patient as they are very busy there.

Please follow rshaffer's post exactly

You have to post your logs in the Malware Removal forum, not here
