the computer this pertains to is vista and my current problem is that im trying to update my computer with windows update but it says that windows cant check for updates i already have it set to download and install. it has been like this since january though it will install the Definition Update for Windows Defender
since thin until now but the following update is the one that it keeps wanting to install .. and it never does and when it restarts it says windows cant check for updates.

also id like to mention i updated my avast antivirus and it installed corrected but upon restart it wouldnt open and say "this application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log for more details....
