Write Protected files on flash drive

I know I have posted this question before; I have done repeated searches for the topic and cannot find it.
The files on the flash drive are 98% unreadable. I cannot delete the files; ever time I try to I keep getting the drive is "write protected". How do I take the "write protection" off the drive to delete the files.
