For about 3 weeks now my laptop has had no sound. I have tried everything from installing drivers to reinstalling windows, with no success. Any help would be much appreciated.
I am running Windows 7 32-bit, my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6700.
Thanks in advanced

Go into your BIOS. Check and make sure your onboard sound is enabled.

To change Boot Sequence in your BIOS
Reboot the system and at the first post screen (where it is counting up memory) start tapping the DEL button
This will enter you into the Bios\Cmos area.
Find the Advanced or Onboard Peripherals area and click Enter
Look for Sound or Audio and enable if disabled.
Click F10 to Save and Exit and then Enter or OK to verify Save and Exit.

I think you should go to control panel and open volume option tab and enable speaker of your laptop.

I have went to the bios and the the audio was already enabled, and also @james there is no volume option in my control panel. The whole game controller option is missing.

  • (for Windows XP users)
  • Please click Start and click Run
(for Windows Vista and 7 users)
  • Please click Start and select the white text box.
  • Type: devmgmt.msc and hit Enter
  • Look for any entries with a Yellow Exclamation Mark or Red X's

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

You have no audio installed at all. Is there audio built onboard on the motherboard?
Do you have a drivers disk that came with the system or the motherboard?

You may have a failed sound chip then. If that is the case then you would need to purchase a external soundcard for the laptop.
Something like these HERE
