pc locks up during game

hello again everyone, another day, another problem, yall are gonna get tired of hearin from me an move more than likely ( laffn )
I finially got the Asus P5nd2-sli up an runnin good an smooth EXCEPT for when gaming. Only 2 games i play is C O D4 an combat arms.
Am usisng a Ati 1600x1650 vid card. It worked fine on my abit i-45cv board with no problems. Yesterday, i hda a dvd movie runnin, 2 web pages with movies runin,a page runnin with java script an had 3 other wep pages open surfing, didnt have a bit of trble.
So why is it lockin up my pc durin these 2 games? I just dont understand it. I get 2 ta 5 mins in a game then WHAM! freeze time! only thing to do when that happends is to reboot.
I sure appreciat yall's help ..... (just dont come over an eat my Ritz cracker, cheesedoodles,sweet pickles an put ur feet on the coffee table,,man i loved that when i read it!)
