Have you considered restoring via the recovery partition? It looks like a lot of things are quite hosed right now and a recovery may be the way to go.

does not make sense....nothing in that process is irreversable--that's why msconfig is so useful

Run a nother hijack log, copy it to a floppy and post it here.

still working through this list.....in the meantime,

when you say that things are loading you told it not to load at startup,,,how did you tell things not to load (before).

All you did was msconfig? You did not do anything in hijack?

Ok, I did that, and... the error message is back now. The other problem is still there too. So, now I can't get online, my desktop looks weird, and the original error message is back also. I think I might be thinking about just taking my comptuer in somewhere and paying for it to be fixed at this point. Any last ideas before I pay money to get it fixed?

Dave,

Thinkpads have restore partitions. According to you HJ list, you look to have a factory install. Why not run Rapid restore and let the partition restore your computer before spending money.

The restore partition does work in bringing Thinkpads back to life.

Will I lose any information if I run rapid restore? And how do I find how to run it?

I forgot to mention that restoring will wipe out all user installed programs and also any user data files. So back up your stuff before you do it.

these are running now, but were not before

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ibmmessages] C:\Program Files\IBM\Messages By IBM\\ibmmessages.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ibmmessages] C:\Program Files\IBM\Messages By IBM\ibmmessages.exe
O4 - Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe

I would check those, choose fix, and reboot

I would then concentrate on those services, uncheck each one until the error stops

Are you able to access the Start menu? If you are, do you have an Access IBM folder in the Programs file listing?

If you can access this folder, click on the Access IBM icon. The app should launch and you will be able to read what to do under Recover Your computer data / Recovery overview.

Let me know if you need any help.

By the way, what model Thinkpad do you have?

Yes I do have an Access IBM folder. I did finally manage to fix the second problem I've been having, with the drivers and the internet and all that. I am still getting the error message though. I think I know what I can do to fix that though. It was gone until I reactivated some programs, so I'll figure out which one it was. If you have a guess as to which program it was from my Hijack logs, let me know. Thanks for the help though.
