Hello
My disc drive E seems to have stopped reading cds or dvds. The drive works ok with cd-rom as an installation disc worked ok.In 'my computer the disc will not even show and when inserted the drive sounds unusual, like it is not reading properly, jerky.
Thanks for any help.

go here and download cdgone.... scroll down to Restore Missing CD Drive patch...its the 23 one down at the time I wrote this...
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it....
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge...
Accept registry merge....
Restart computer.
nojoy....
right click on my computer...then properties...hardware tab.. then Device Manager.. click + sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers....
You'll see two items... Primary Channel and Secondary Channel
Right click on each of them.... and click Uninstall.... Confirm....
Reboot.... They'll be automatically reinstalled....and the cd drive should now show up in my computer...

Thanks for the reply happyrock
I may not have been very clear in my first post.
In 'my computer' DVD-RAM Drive (E;) is there but when I put a disc in and would normally be able to open the contents from there ,I am getting nothing now.
I went to the live help and it was suggested I go device manager-CD/DVD-uninstall and then reboot.
After this I was able to put in a burnt music cd and under 'my computer' a 'removable disc F' appeared which opened containing the tracks on the disc, and I was able to play them.
No such luck with a dvd, burnt or original.
I did download the paatch as per your instruction, was able to 'merge'.
Only part that differed from your instruct was the under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers where there was no 'secondary'.
Thanks
