I just bought a new Dell Studio XPS 8100. I have a Seagate Cheetah 15K 73GB hard drive that I wanted to install and just run windows 7 from that. Is that possible? If so what kind of cables do I need?

Serial ATA is your motherboard connections and so should be your Hard Drive. So buy cables for SATA drives.

IF you had a Hard Drive inside already when you bought your PC then buy the same kind of cable that this Drive is using.

The drive is a scsi drive so it doesn't have the same kind of cables.

Then you need to buy a scsi pci card and you should have the required cable with it.

Oh man you got a 15K drive!!! I got 2x 10K Cheetah SCSI drives in my server running RAID 1 :) 15K would be nuts.

So you have to find a SCSI RAID controller that is compatible with your machine.
