I've got a laptop that I removed Antispyware Soft from and the removal process seems to have gone without a hitch. I'm fairly confident that Antispyware Soft is gone because the popups no longer appear and when I run Malwarebytes' Anti-malware it comes up with no reported issues. The problem I'm having now is that after the cleaning both the wired and wireless connections are unable to acquire an IP address.

I've rebooted several times, uninstalled and reinstalled through the device manager and run Malwarebytes in both quick and full scan modes.

It's certainly possible that there's a hardware issue as we've had no small number of problems with this laptop (we've had to replace the hard drive and it's heat output is significant), but my boss needs to be sure before he can request a replacement.

Below is the logfile generated by HijackThis! Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide.

Thanks in advance.

Connect your PC to the wired internet.

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, then uncheck all boxes and OK. Close IE and restart IE.

In FireFox, Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings, check No Proxy then OK. Close Firefox and restart Firefox.

In Chrome, Wrench, Options, Under the Hood, Change Proxy Settings, uncheck all boxes, OK restart chrome.

If that doesn't help then:

Start, Run, cmd, OK or Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, to bring up a Command window.

Type with an Enter after each line in the code box (I use 2 spaces to show where one space goes):

net start "dhcp client"
ipconfig /all
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

The first line should give an error that the service is already started. The second will show your IP address (what did you get) and DNS server address (what did you get)
The 3rd and 4th lines will tell it to redo the DHCP. Does it get the same addresses or do you get an error?

Ron,

Thanks, that helped a great deal. I've been manually starting the Wireless Zero Configuration service, but it appears that with every reboot DHCP was not starting properly.

I've got internet now although I still get periodic pop-ups from http://www.news-11-today.com but that's of much less concern for me.

Thanks again for the quick (and successful) response. You guys are the best!

So is DHCP Client starting OK now without you starting it? If not, Start, Run, services.msc, OK then choose Standard and right click on DHCP Client and then Dependencies. One of the Dependencies may be slow starting.

Start, Run, sfc /scannnow, OK and it will check you critical system files to make sure they are OK.

Normally we have you do as much of

http://www.geekstogo...uide-t2852.html

as you can. If a step won't work, skip to the next one. Copy and paste your gmer, mbam, otl, & extras logs into a reply. Do not attach them.

If you lose internet access after running MBAM or if you are not able to get to the downloads:

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, then uncheck all boxes and OK. Close IE and restart IE.

In FireFox, Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings, check No Proxy then OK. Close Firefox and restart Firefox.

In Chrome, Wrench, Options, Under the Hood, Change Proxy Settings, uncheck all boxes, OK.
