Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop

Motherbord is fried. Well, I think it is, anyway. When turning on computer, flashes a quick Dell logo, then screen goes black. Can't get to setup. It's 4 years old, so I guess it's time. Hubs just told me it was getting very HOT!

My question is how can we retrieve files from the hard drive without taking it in to a tech? We have a desktop and another laptop, but unfortunately, the hard drives aren't interchangeable.
Any help appreciated.

Your local computer/accessories store will have a USB SATA/IDE cable that you can attach to the hard drive and plug into another computer to transfer all the files.
