Whenever I hit the send/receive button, the message looks like it goes out. But then an error message pops up and says the connection to my serve stopped. I can receive incoming emails. I have gone around and around with BellSouth (my service provider) and they cannot figure it out.

What version of Outlook are you using? Here's a good link from Bellsouth showing how to configure your setting in Outlook 2000.

It sounds like your outgoing SMTP server isn't configured correctly. What you need to do is open outlook or outlook express and go to Tools then Accounts then under the Mail Tab click on Properties and finally on Servers.

In the Outgoing (SMTP) Server Tab put the smtp server of you DSL provider. So if your DSL is through Bellsouth, then this box should read smtp.bellsouth.net or possibly mail.bellsouth.net . This will not affect your incoming messages.

Let us know if it works! <_<
