Long time lurker, first time poster...I find this forum to be very helpful in fixing my computer problems, however, recently I've ran into a little snag that I can't seem to fix.

Lately, I've been randomly getting the Generic Host 32 Has Encountered Problem pop up. It goes on to tell me that my svchost.exe is the source of this problem. I've tried EVERYTHING that I could Google up. Here are the things that I've tried (but doesn't seem help the problem at all):

- Disable Microsoft Updates
- Close internet ports using windows worm door cleaner
- Ran virus/malware scans...I ran Symantec and nothing shows up. I ran Malwarebytes, nothing shows up. I ran Trend Micro's Housecall, and that caught 4 Trojans, which I've disposed of.
- Attempted to update a patch from the Microsoft site, but it told me that I had the most recent patch already
- Did stuff with my registry

I'm at my wit's end here! I can not do a system restore as I don't have that option on my XP, and I do not want to reinstall XP if I don't have to.

Can anyone shed light on my problem? I've attached a HiJackThis log if that would help. Thanks a million in advance!

Disable Spybot's Teatimer first:
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
* If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
select
Advanced Mode
* On the left hand side, click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident icon in the list
* Uncheck
Resident TeaTimer
and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer

It doesn't like changes and will fight our fixes.

Now boot into Safe Mode (Reboot and when you hear the beep, see the maker's logo or it tells you to press F8 to go into Safe Mode, start slowly tapping the F8 key until you see the Safe Mode menu. Select the top option (Safe Mode). Log in as your usual login.

Run HJT, scan only then check these:

Download and Rename this file -- (call it george.exe ) to your Desktop -- from either of these two sources:

A caution - Do not run Combofix more than once. Do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed, as this may cause the process to stall or your computer to lock. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your Drive light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work.

A file will be created at => C:\Combofix.txt. I'll need to see that in your reply.

Re-activate your anti-virus program at this time :!:

• Go to this page and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop.
• Extract its contents to your desktop and drag TDSSKiller.exe on the desktop, not in the folder.
• Vista Start logo >All Programs> Accessories> RIGHT-click on Command Prompt and Select Run As Administrator. Copy/paste the following bolded command and hit Enter.
  
  "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v
• If TDSSKiller alerts you that the system needs to reboot, please consent.
• When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents in your next reply.

Do the Bitdefender online scan:
