Please can someone tell me what Ceres is?

I can find lots of programs that are supposed to get rid of it, but can't seem to find out what it is and whether it is compromising the security of my computer and credit card details etc whilst using things like e-bay.

I have tried removing it with AVG anti-virus, but it says it can't be deleted.

Does anyone know the best software to download to get rid of it?

Many thanks, from someone who is unfamiliar with dealing with things like this.
