ryanduddy,
you may want to try running the dell provided hard drive testing utilities and make sure the hard drive is in good condition.

Upon booting your computer press F8 and you will be given a few options. One should be hard drive test or hard drive diagnostics. Select it and run the drive through its test.
If it fails the test, you will need to replace your hard drive.

Reboot your computer and press DEL or F2 to enter your BIOS. You should see IDE options of Boot options.
Next to IDE Master 0 you should see a drive name and model. Post that here.

ok. let's do this. You have the computer booted and running.
Right click on My computer and left click on Properties. The system Properties screen will show. Click on Device manager in the upper left corner.
Once in the Device manager click the + sign next to Disk Drives.
List the contents under Disk Drives here. This will show what manufacturer and model hard drive you have.

Take your time. I understand that computer issues are frustrating and put at your "wits-end".
You're not frustrating me at all. I completely understand.
