Thanks for the input.
i have been tweaking over the weekend and managed to get it to report as an xp2400, but, and a very big but is that to do it ive had to revert to 100fsb with a multiplier of 12.5! if i try any other combo its back to the bat1 jumper! I have tried adjustments both directly in the BIOS and through the MSI FuzzyLogic interface, but to no avail.
Although i'm now happier about not frying my system, it still leaves me baffled as to whats going on. If I keep it at 100FSB, how much difference will i have in overall performance? can i cause any damage but running it "underclocked" like this?
And yes, i do try to face most things with a joke and a smile. Its probably the only thing that has kept my PC alive this long, although it has sorely tested my patience. What really gets me is i built an identical system for a friend, and as it was so simple and worked perfectly I decided to take the leap myself! Hey, ive got to laugh, or else ill cry
!!!
Any further insight would be greatly appreciated and thank you very much for your assistance
Kind Regards
Ian
