Hello! im in need of just a little assistance if you wouldn't mind please folks.

My MSI KT4av is severely disturbed! For some reason its confused about its processsor. I install an athlon xp2400, my pc jumps for joy convinced i'd bought it an xp2700! I have cleared CMOS to many times to be healthy, tweaked, nipped, tickled..........and soon will probably start hammering!can someone please tell me how?

What's you FSB speed set at? I think your XP2400 should run at 133mhz, if you're at 166mhz it's being overclocked.

i have been tweaking over the weekend and managed to get it to report as an xp2400, but, and a very big but is that to do it ive had to revert to 100fsb with a multiplier of 12.5! if i try any other combo its back to the bat1 jumper! I have tried adjustments both directly in the BIOS and through the MSI FuzzyLogic interface,but to no avail.

Although i'm now happier about not frying my system, it still leaves me baffled as to whats going on. If I keep it at 100FSB, how much difference will i have in overall performance? can i cause any damage but running it "underclocked" like this?

And yes, i do try to face most things with a joke and a smile. Its probably the only thing that has kept my PC alive this long, although it has sorely tested my patience. What really gets me is i built an identical system for a friend, and as it was so simple and worked perfectly I decided to take the leap myself! Hey, ive got to laugh, or else ill cry !!!

Any further insight would be greatly appreciated and thank you very much for your assistance

AMD processors like high FSB speeds. You are cripling your system running it at 100mhz FSB. Sounds like you may just have a defective motherboard.

Got hold of an identical mobo (brandnew, its the one ive bought for the Ex's pc build) so when i get chance will give it a whirl and see what pops up. Ill post the results back here for anyone interested.
