Thank God I found you guys....

A little history/details of my problems: Up until this past Thursday my system was doing just fine, no popups or anything of the like. While browsing the internet, a window popped up saying something along the lines of "You really should raise your explorer security! Otherwise, all sorts of programs can install themselves on your computer!" And then all [bleep] broke loose. More popups than I could possibly count began spawning and I could do nothing but watch in horror as a multitude of adware programs began installing themselves onto my system!
I followed all the steps that you recomended in the "Before you post..." thread, but I still have more crud sneaking around than I can handle! It even manages to often times run my CPU usage up to 100%!
Also, when I go to log into my page (I use windows XP) I will immediately be automatically logged back out and the computer will restart itself. When I try to log in again, it will work as normal, but I will be given a message along the lines of "C:\Windows\cfgmgr51.dll module could not be found"
I'm at my wit's end on this one. You guys are my last hope! Please help!

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. Do NOT run it yet.

Please download nailfix at http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip (for Windows XP) or http://users.pandora...y/nailfix2k.zip (for Windows 2000) Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
Download KillBox http://www.atribune....ads/KillBox.exe
Download rkfiles http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

Download the remv3.zip at http://forums.skads....hp?showtopic=80 (look for the attachment posted in that second reply). Make a new folder on the root drive C:\ and unzip remv3.zip files into it.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Run CleanUp program now and logoff.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd (or nailfix2k.bat if you have Windows 2000). Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Post the log from the Ewido scan here.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr51.dl

Next double click rkfiles.bat file (that you unzipped earlier) to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. Open the C:\log.txt it created and rename it log1.txt.

Now open the folder where you saved remv3.zip files and double click the rem.bat file and let it run. It will delete the files and remove the infection and then make a log of the files it finds. The log file will be C:\log.txt and bad1.txt

**Note** Each tool uses log.txt as it’s output file so make sure you save the entries from one tools log before running the other as it will overwrite the file if you don’t.

Restart your computer in normal mode and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan. Also post both the log.txt and log1.txt files.

Thank you so much for replying! I truly do appreciate it. I did everything you told me to do. The computer seems to be running better, but task manager still shows that I have 46 processes running. I don't know if that means anything, but I thought it might help to tell you. Ok, on with the logs....

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2MFix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

OK, something just popped up here. I will need these logs from you also:

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
Download KillBox http://www.atribune....ads/KillBox.exe
Download rkfiles http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

Download the remv3.zip at http://forums.skads....hp?showtopic=80 (look for the attachment posted in that second reply). Make a new folder on the root drive C:\ and unzip remv3.zip files into it.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Run CleanUp program now and logoff.

REBOOT TO SAFE MODE. These tools MUST be run in Safe Mode!
Once in safe mode, double click rkfiles.bat file to run it. It will scan for a while, so please be patient. Wait until the DOS window closes. Open the C:\log.txt it created and rename it log1.txt.

Now open the folder where you saved remv3.zip files and double click the rem.bat file and let it run. It will delete the files and remove the infection and then make a log of the files it finds. The log file will be C:\log.txt and bad1.txt

**Note** Each tool uses log.txt as it’s output file so make sure you save the entries from one tools log before running the other as it will overwrite the file if you don’t.

Reboot back to normal mode and post the contents of both the log.txt and log1.txt in your next post.

Okay before I post the new logs... Now every time I log into my account Norton will find and *sometimes* delete something called "Trojan.Alwayup" but it keeps returning. Also Ewido will detect and quarantine two files called "C:\WINDOWS\system32\uvkrzv.exe" and "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ozipxzh.dll" These also return every time. And finally, I've noticed while in task manager that when the popups start getting bad, it's usually because of "C:\WINDOWS\system\emcs.exe" acting up. Or so it appears..... Ok Log time.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

That msg dll keeps coming back. It's the Look2Me infection. OK, let's try this out:

Before doing anything, MAKE SURE that you can keep your computer on (at least until we get it fixed). This infection requires us to detect and remove it without rebooting or restarting your computer (unless the instructions say so). If you can't keep your computer on today, then I suggest that you don't get the logs yet until you are ready. With that said (when ready):

Please follow the steps below:

1. Download/run the following uninstallers:

Look2Me Uninstaller http://www.look2me.c...bin/UnInstaller
IGN Keyword Uninstaller http://www.greyknigh...LNUninstall.zip
ClearSearch Uninstaller http://www.greyknigh...chUninstall.zip

You may restart if any of the uninstallers above asks you to restart. So do that before posting the logs below.

2. Run Kill2Me.

3. Unzip the pv.zip files contents to your Desktop (NOTE: It MUST be on your Desktop!).
a) Open that folder on your Desktop and double click on the runme.bat file.
b) Type in 3 and hit your Enter key. Save the log file.
c) Type in 5 and hit your Enter key. Save the log file.
d) Remember to copy and paste both of these log files in the forum AFTER you are finished with the rest of the steps below.

4. Run notify.bat and it should open up a notify.txt Notepad file. Copy and paste this in the forum later.

5. Run VX2Finder(126) and click on the Find VX2.BetterInternet button. Click Make Log and post this in the forum later.

We also need a list of files in the following folders:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ - for these files, if they just have numbers as the filename, right click on them and go to Properties to see what they are. Post the description for each of those here.
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ - there might be a download folder here. We are looking for any randomly named files. Post anything that looks suspicious.

Post all of the logs in your next post. We need them all to get a fix for this infection.
