I have a latitude d400.It came without hard drive or o.s.I installed a new 60gb h.d.and am trying to load win.98 se.I'm using external cd/rom and external floppy drive.It keeps telling me no cd/rom found and aborts.I don't know what to do.Can you help me please. :)

Why are you putting Windows 98 on it? That machine would have come with XP originally and should have a licence on the bottom of the laptop you can use.

yes it does have the product key on the bottom but how can I use it with out any disks?And how can I boot anything when it can't find the drives?

In order to boot a computer from USB-attached devices, such as a floppy, hard drive and USB key (thumb/flash drive), the BIOS must support it.

Most new computer BIOSs can be set to boot from USB devices ... older computers cannot. :)

As far as reinstalling XP using the Product Key already on the bottom of the laptop, borrow a CD of the same version.

This will most likely be a OEM key and not a Retail code.
Something else to watch out for.
