I have an HP laptop with Windows XP. It is a few years old, but it works great for surfing the web and my kids doing their school work. I don't know what program it is, but something keeps trying to install all the time and apparently, something is missing so a window telling me there's a missing file keeps popping up. If I click cancel, it goes away, but the process starts all over again. Thanks in advance for your help.

We will need more information before we can help you. Tell us what you can regarding the file error that keeps appearing, and it would also help us if we knew the name of that program that keeps trying to install.

The message is in one of those little windws that pops up. It cpops up and goes away on its own. Sometimes it sticks around for a few seconds. Sometime it goes away in a milisecond and comes back and does it over and over. The name of the window is "Windows Installer". Inside the window it just says "Preparing to Install" and there is a "Cancel" button. this one doesn have a path window like some of those installation windows do. I hope this describes it better. Thanks for your help.

I suggest that you start a new topic in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal area.

Before you start a new topic click on this link --> Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, Please read before starting a new topic. This will give you a few preparations to make, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
