Have you tried removing the app and reinstalling all drivers for your sound card?
Is windows still recognizing the sound devices?

-edit - This should distinguish the difference between hardware and software malfunction.

Click Start then Control Panel, Right click on Device Manager,
select Sound,Video & Game Controllers, right click on sound
card, check the properties & see what it says, then go through
the options to see if you can get the sound back 1st try Scan
for hardware changes if no luck try Update if still no luck
try uninstall & then reinstall your soundcard drivers from fresh.
