sony laptop problem

I thought I had a virus on my sony vgn-fw270j laptop - I got online support help for this since I could not connect to the internet, and my dvd was not working, and my computer was slow. The online support had me put my computer in safe mode and they ran a scan - after when I tried to boot back up the windows screen did not show- my desktop screen was black. I can get on the internet in safe mode but I have no sound, ect. Is this possibly a hardware problem?
