An hour ago I got a warning and I shut down XP. Now when I boot up, the icons on desktop flash for awhile and eventually set in place. When I try and open a window, everything freezes up. Reboot and it does the same thing. I defragged, I ran my System Mechanic, all to no avail. What now?

Howdy and welcome to GTG:

The exact wording of the warning you received would be a very big help.
