Hi,

I am running Windows XP and last night I got a virus. It stated the following (incomplete sentence and all):

"Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan your computer. Your system might be at risk now."

I received all kinds of nasty pop-ups; but I never clicked to purchase the software or clicked on anything to fix the problem. However, I did keep on closing the pop-ups. I could not go to any website without getting a window stating that I was infected. It was a "Security Suite Shield" down in the tray and various programs (sf.bin, vercls.id.exe, dumrep.exe, cmd.exe, googleupdate.exe, taskmgr.exe, drwtsn32.exe) all stated that they were infected.

I also received: "ATTENTION! Sypware Alert Your computer is infected by Spyware - 34".

I was not able to go to the command prompt, notepad, task manager, etc...; but I was able to go to explore and did a search on various programs. I saw that they had been renamed with a PF and numbers in their name. I deleted those and was able, one time, to click on taskmgr.exe; and Task Manager opened. I saw a strange process with letters (upper case and lower case) and numbers. I deleted that process; and the fake security shield in the tray disappeared. However, a minute later, it started over again.

I never tried to go into safe mode because I was getting sleepy and had to get up for work. However, I need help in resolving this issue. Please help.

Thank you

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
