Hi there,

I've just been hit with a problem. XP doesn't seem to load any profiles on my computer, and stays stuck at the 'loading you personal settings' screen. Most of the time it will stay stuck, but now and then my profile will eventually load.

I can use the computer as an Admin on Safe Mode, and on the occasion that the profile did start up, I ran SAS, MLAM, and an Avast! scan. All of these showed nothing. I also ran Uniblue Registry Booster, and cleaned up all of these errors.

I read through some pages on the net where people had suggested a problem with Avast! (which I too had recently downloaded), so I unistalled that, but the problem persists.

Previously, my sound card (Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec) did not load on startup, and I would have to go through device manager to uninstall, and reinstall it for it to work. I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem.

Because I can use Safe Mode, I think there must be something wrong with my startup applications. I proceeded to disable all startup programs located in C:/Program Files/..., but the problem was still there (I didn't touch the startups located in the Windows folder).

NB. I cannot load any profile on the computer, so it's not a corruption of a certain profile. I have also tried system restore to an earlier date, but this has not effect.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

From TechArena forum

Make sure you have full control on your profile folder. To do so so
start a command prompt and issue this command:

cacls C:"\Documents and Settings\username" /t /e /g username:f

Obviously, replace username above with your user name. You have to use
the quotation marks in the command, as above. You can simply use the
cacls command on your profile folder to ensure that you have the full
control permissions on the folder:

cacls C:"\Documents and Settings\username"

You should see your username with letters, the letter "F" should be
there by your username. Once you are certain that you have proper
permissions reboot the computer. If the error persists see here:
