I have a Dell Dimension 3100 that I am trying replacement the hard drive in. Actually I am doing this for my mother. She doesnt need anything fancy as all she does with a computer is play a few card games and surf the internet. I gave her the Dimension 3100 but the hard drive crashed because of a massive amount of errors on the drive. I have gotten my hands on a Samsung HD040GJ on ebay for cheap. I thought all I had to do was replace the HD and reinstall windows. However, the HD is not detected by the system. Anybody got any ideas why the drive can not be detected? Thanks for any input.

Hi mrbojos
You say the HDD is not detected, is this in the Control Panel or the BIOS?
To check if it is detected in the BIOS tap F2 on boot up, set the boot order
to CD first and the HDD second, save your settings and exit.
Pop your windows disk into the CD drive and then restart your computer, then
press any key to continue, follow the on screen instructions to install the OS.
I would recommend formatting the HDD first to be sure it is clean (full NTFS).
I hope this helps you out.
