I got long winded. If you are a brave soul ( or married and this is better than talking to her) than read on. If not, be a wussy and skip to the end.

I am an old school computer builder and i think the last one i built one was in 1999. After that i have bought computers ( i know, shame on me). I have been way out of the loop for way to long and got really embarrassed Friday with my POS system. I had a client call me at 2:00 am from India with a problem. I am sitting there with my 15 inch monitor ( at work i have two 24" ), very slow download speed. Actually very slow everything. He is spending alot of money just sitting there waiting on my system to import certain files. I do not want to go through that again. So this weekend i started looking into my laptop, that i am using as a multimedia computer, downloading junk i have in the bedroom. It was just as bad as the desktop plus it is running vista that i have never quite figured out. So i spent the weekend shopping, i think we all know how that goes. Nothing made me happy unless i was getting close to the 2k mark. So my wife said the smartest thing ever " Just build your own [bleep] and take me home". The light bulb finally went off, buzzers rang and kids in Africa were singing to me.

Let me back track a bit. When i was younger i would research everything for months, find exactly what was the best then ebay it. Ebay doesnt seem to be as kind anymore and there is more computer sales sites than adult bookstores on I-10.

So this is where the true question comes into play. I am wanting to build me a computer that i can use for work and as a multimedia computer. I will be the only one using this because as much as i love my wife and kids. They can destroy anything you have in seconds!

My work needs:
I have very heavy internet use. I have 12 conference calls a week through various different countries. I have to be able to have MS Office 2003 and 2007, Ms Project 2003 and 2007, Primavera 3 - 7, Sure track, PDMC, Pacesetter, Oracle, Citadon, basically anything that robs the maxium bandwith. These systems sure drag everything down.

Personal use:
I would like to use this for multi media stuff, porn and maybe a few games. I am just being honest but Multimedia is top dog to me.

Operating system:
I have always used XP and below. I have Vista on the laptop but it sucks. So should i stay with xp or try windows 7? Is there a compatibility issue like with Vista? Does Windows 7 really offer anything good or useful?

I apoligize, i like to talk. Here is the real questions:

1. I no longer have time to research, too many kids and a needy wife. What would y'all recommend. I am partial to AMD. But stuff today blows away 1999 tech. I need some help from smart guys.

2. What is the cheapest place to buy computer equipment? I googled it today and it blew my mind!

3. Any thing significant change in the last 11 years?

I apologize for mispellings, this was all sent from my Iphone. Yes, it took a while but it is ok. My company paid me for it.

See when your old, you ramble on an forget the specifics. This is what i started to put together on newegg. Which i do not plan on buying from them since i get mork and mindy reruns in my head. The problem is, i am not sure what is compatible. [bleep], everything might be compatible by now. I am not sure.
