My Ipod touch needs to be restored and in order to do this, Itunes needs to contact the Ipod software update server. Problem is, everytime I try to restore it, it tells me I'm not connected to the Internet. Yes I am connected to the Internet and yes Itunes is an exception in my firewall, and no I do not have Norton Anti-Virus. I have restored it before, but now I can't seem to figure out what is wrong with it. Please help!

Ok, now that that's off my chest... I'm not sure why you need to restore your Ipod, but here's something many people don't know... hopefully it'll work for your version of Itunes. Before you click on the Restore button in Itunes, hold down the "shift" key. This will cause a window to pop up and allow you to do a "manual restore". In this pop up window you can browse to a restore folder where previous restore files are saved. If you've restored your Ipod before, you should have some saved restore files located at...
C:\Document and Settings\ <your user name>\Application Data\Apple Computer\Itunes\Ipod Software Updates

All you have to do is click on the file you want to restore your ipod to, then click ok. Just choose the highest version number of the file. Itunes should run through the restore.

People normally just connect to the internet to search for updated restore files but many times these updates aren't needed. Ipods can work just fine with older updates files.

As for what's going on with why Itunes can't connect to the internet, see my first comment. I can't help you with fixing Itunes as it has so many various problems on so many people's machines.

Here's a screen shot of the pop up window and what my update file looks like. Since I don't own an Ipod touch, I'm not sure what your update file will look like. In any case, try it and see if this will work for you.

I've deleted part of your original post for space. I've tried your solution--and will remember it for future use--but since I've never restored an iPod on my PC (running XP Media Center Edition v. 2w002 svp3) I have no update files to choose from. I don't know how old your post is but do you have any other ideas.
